GuestMy dad gave me his old hatchback last month, and he told me to put together a small emergency kit before I start driving to my new job. I thought it would be easy, but now I am standing in the store aisle looking at ten different things and I have no idea what is really needed. Jumper cables are the first thing I picked up, but then I started to wonder if cables are even enough. My cousin says a portable jump box is better because you do not need another car. My mom says a flashlight and a phone charger matter more than anything. Then there is the water, the first aid box, the warning triangle, and a tire pump, and the cart is already getting full. On the way home I was reading a few posts about this and somebody wrote that Car Jumpstart Pros is the kind of number you should save in your phone next to the other helpful contacts, because sometimes it is smarter to call a person than to try something yourself in the dark. That made sense to me, since I have never touched a battery and I would probably be nervous the first time. So I want to ask what you all keep in your trunk. What did you buy that you never used, and what saved you when something went wrong? Is it worth spending more on good cables, or do the cheap ones work the same? I also wonder where to store everything, because my trunk is small and I do not want things rolling around when I take a turn. And how often do you check the kit? I heard some things like water and snacks can go bad, and the batteries in a flashlight can leak if you forget them. I would love a simple list from people who drive every day. Also, if you have a funny story about the one thing you wished you had packed, I would be happy to hear that too. Thanks a lot for helping a new driver.
